SBP Data Acquisition

Before SBP data collection , we have to make the acquisition trajectory design tailored to the purpose of the survey. The Design track will affect the effectiveness of field work and subsequent data processing. At the survey, SBP will be guided by a set of Navigation tools with high precision GPS (DGPS or RTK) to facilitate the acquisition team for data collection in accordance trajectory that has been made.

The next process is preparation, taht is the preparation of a survey vessel (ship) and installation of SBP and GPS equipment.

One of SBP tool that is often used in industry Hydro-Oceanographic is a Syqwest Stratabox 10KHz system which is Pinger type.

Once all the equipment needed has been prepared, the next process is SBP data acquisition corresponding to trajectory that has been made at an early stage.

SBP Data Processing - Swell Filter

When the up and down movement of ocean waves at the time of Sub-Bottom Profiling (SBP) data collection  is large enough, it causes the line reflectors tend not to be in the correct position. By doing Swell filter on the SBP data processing stage then this effect will be minimized.

One way to do swell filter to the SBP data  is to use Static Correction. The above data was taken using the tool Syqwest Stratabox 10KHz.

Sub Bottom Profiling (SBP)

Sub-Bottom Profiling (SBP) is a subsurface sensing technique by using a special tool that utilizes acoustic waves with single channel to display the shallow seabed seismic profile (JD Penrose et al, 2005). SBP method is one application of seismic reflection method for identifying the sediment layers beneath the surface of the seabed.

Sound source (transmitter) emits a signal propagates downward through the water column and then the receiver will receive the signal back after reflected by the surface of the seabed and the boundary layer below the surface of the seabed.
